Aliso Viejo , Calif. February 9 th, 2005 – (Part 3 of 5) The Real Estate Apprentice™ Foundation today announced that Kendra Shearer and Mary Finley are Finalists five and six in Season 1 of the 2004 Real Estate Apprentice Grant. Chosen from over 1,500 applicants both Shearer and Finley will receive $5,000 worth of real estate education, products and services. They respectively took their licensing courses at Barney Fletcher Real Estate School and Armbrust Real Estate Institute. Both schools are part of the RealtyU® network. Grants are sponsored by RealtyU®, iSucceed Real Estate Mentoring, First American Residential Group, Hobbs Herder Advertising & Design, Success Strategies Institute, McLean International, Thomson Learning, CyberSpace Society, Broker Agent News and RIS Media.

Kendra, a Georgia girl whose parents are natives of the state, is married to Paul Shearer. They have three children, one of whom was born with Spina Bifida. As a result of Kendra’s encouragement and despite her being in a wheelchair and undergoing 46 operations, the daughter achieved a certification in Early Childhood Development. Kendra’s other two married children are both preparing to take their real estate license examination. Kendra’s dream is to one day work together as a family in the real estate business. Spurred on by her own daughter’s need, Kendra has worked in the healthcare industry since 1977 as a registered nurse in the acute care and long term care setting and later as Vice President and Administrator. Kendra has also been a consultant, a field surveyor with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and a risk manager, assisting organizations with risk reduction strategies. Her goal is to develop a Senior Services Division within the real estate firm where she started working, assisting a range of seniors from those who are healthy and independent to those with complex health needs and who are transitioning into assisted living, skilled nursing homes, or dementia care units.

Mary Finley grew up in a suburb of Minneapolis/St. Paul as part of a large family of six. Upon graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Minnesota, Mary moved to Denver to be near the mountains so she could ski, hike and camp. Her career path has consisted of positions within Corporate Human Resources with an emphasis in recruiting, as well as a position as Direct Marketing Coordinator for small executive consulting firm targeting individuals at the Vice President level. She has been very active with United Way, having co-chaired a corporate United Way committee for eight years. This position involved planning and executing fund raising events. Ms. Finley’s numerous awards include a Chairperson of the Year award from Mile High United Way, as well as the Spirit of Hope award. In her free time, Mary enjoys investing in the stock market, political discussions, reading and traveling.
